WORLD´s ELECTRONIC MUSIC LEAGUE IN INTERVIEW:

Paco Osuna - Live DJ Set at WOMB Adventure (Tokyo) May 2011

Iman Gerowgan: Hola Paco, how are you?

Paco Osuna: I'm fine thank you.

Iman Gerowgan: Tell us how you first got started with electronic music and productions.

Paco Osuna: Well, I've been involved with electronic music since I was very young. I think it was when I was 13 or 14 when my uncle was the director of Studio 54 in Barcelona and I would always go visit him. He would always bring me to his office and he had a window in there where I could watch the dancefloor. His office also had speakers inside where I would be able to listen to what the DJ was playing. That very moment is when my passion for music began.

As for production, this was a few years later. In 1997 a friend of mine helped me produce my first track because at that time I didn't know very much about computers and needed a little help.

Iman Gerowgan: Has it always been your dream to work as an international fulltime DJ?

Paco Osuna: Since I started to make a living from the music, yes of course, but when I was young my dream was to be a footballer.

Iman Gerowgan:Which artists or bands have influenced you the most in your childhood?

Paco Osuna: For bands I always liked Depeche Mode, The Cure, New Order. For individual artists I love Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. Both had amazing voices.

Iman Gerowgan: Imagine you could turn back the time. What would you do differently?

Paco Osuna: Nothing. Everything I've ever done is what has made Paco who he is today...  both the good moments and the bad moments.

Iman Gerowgan: Looking at the music industry, the music scene.. what makes you worry about nowadays?

Paco osuna: What makes me worry the most is new artists who don't have any respect for the music itself. The ones who want to arrive very quickly, play around the world, ask for more and more money, and totally do not respect that there is something creative that is important in this business as well. And it only comes from inside of you. For me, when I make a track or even perform a DJ set it comes from something deep inside of me. Sometimes I see many new artists forgetting about this and just trying to make music that makes them money.

Iman gerowgan: "Without music life would be a mistake" (Nietzsche)

What would you do, if there would be no music in the world?

Paco Osuna: Wow. This is a super difficult question to answer.  I cannot imagine a life without music. I think it would be boring and depressing. Just one note of music can change your day... it can make u smile... it can make you love. In my case, I don't know how to survive without music.

Iman Gerowgan: "Music can change the world, because music can change

people“ (Bono, U2) What do you think?

Paco Osuna: I absolutely agree with him.

Iman gerowgan: What have been your event hightlights of the year so far?

Paco Osuna: The Mindshake World Tour events have been really something special this year. We have taken the label to another level here in 2011 and the events we've done to celebrate this have all been extremely successful. Also, Awakenings Festival. I did a very rare Live Set there and had an amazing reaction.

Iman gerowgan: What´s going on your mind, how do you feel, when you see thousands of people dancing to your music?

Paco Osuna: This is something that even after 16 years of doing this still surprises and excites me. It can be better then an orgasm because so many people are having fun with you... feeling the same as you. I dont know how to explain, but still before I play big shows after all these years I still get butterflys in my stomach.

Iman Gerowgan: After years of experiences and numerous events, are you still nervous before a show? ..do you have "rituals" before entering the DJ-stage?

Paco Osuna: Yes absolutely. Every show is a different because every crowd is different. I cannot do the same performance in each show, so I'm always nervous during the first 15 to 20 minutes because this is where u feel if the people like your music  or not. As for any rituals, I don't have any. I have only rituals when I watch football.

Iman gerowgan: Which projects are you working on at the moment? What can we expact from you in the near future?

Paco Osuna: This year i took a few weeks off to produce more music because I feel I really had to do it. I also really want to continue focusing on Mindshake. I want to push our label and our artists to the next level. It is time for me to show to the world my vision of Mindshake, our music, and our events.

Iman gerowgan: Which role does Plus 8 play for you and your career?

Paco Osuna: Plus 8 is like Mindshake. I dont feel any difference, aside from the fact that I'm not the owner of the label. I very much feel a part of Plus 8. I feel extremely proud to represent the label with my sound and extremely thankful for what Plus 8 has given to me. I will continue this relationship with Plus 8 because for me is no difference between Mindshake or Plus 8 in my heart. I love both.

Iman gerowgan: What is the philosophy behind your label MINDSHAKE?

Paco Osuna: It is simple. We make dancefloor music. Whether it is peak hour, warm-up, or afterhour tracks, it serves one purpose... the dancefloor.

Iman gerowgan: What is currently happening on your label? We also see Mindshake is on World Tour. Tell us more about it.

Paco Osuna: My label is experiencing a revolution. I am doing more releases and parties then ever before. I wanna promote the name of my artists using Mindshake as a platform and I want to help these new talents progress their profiles. I also enjoy the moments me and my crew have in all these cities together. When you are working with your friends you enjoy the experience a thousand times more. But sometimes a major label tour can create nerves because your vision and imagination is out there and on the line. But at the end of the night when you see everyone smiling on a full dancefloor having fun enjoying your artists and the Mindshake sound... this is a big success.

Iman gerowgan: How will you spend your summer? Which events are you looking forward to?

Paco Osuna: I will be playing in Ibiza for sure and all the festivals and parties I possibly can. I cannot say specific places because my schedule is extremely to pin down without looking at it, but for sure everyone can check our my new website www.pacoosuna.com and on all the social networks to keep updated.

Iman Gerowgan: Thank your for the interview and your time Paco! We wish you all the best!

Paco Osuna: Thank you and see u around.
