WORLD´s ELECTRONIC MUSIC LEAGUE IN INTERVIEW:

Iman Gerowgan: Hi Jochem :) First of all, thanks for taking time out of your busy shedule to answer these questions for Starcatchers Germany. How are you feeling?

Speedy J: good!

Iman Gerowgan: People say: „A man is successful if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do.“ ...are you „successfull“?

Speedy J: i guess so yes but i'm not successful getting out of bed

Iman Gerowgan: Beatport plays a more and more important role for many artists, who measure their success on the Beatport charts. What do you think about this kind of trend and what does Beatport and Charts mean to you?

Speedy J: i'd rather measure my success on the above than on beatport charts. charts are just another way of curating and promotion which can be a welcome tool for many people to help finding a way through the cloud of content.

Iman Gerowgan: What have been your party highlight since January 2011 and which event are you really looking forward to?

Speedy J: the 10th edition of electric deluxe presents on february 4th was a big one for me. i'm really looking forward to #11 on queensnight in april, where chris and myself will play a 7 hour collabs set. www.electricdeluxepresents.net

Iman Gerowgan: We here you are working on a new album. How is it going so far and when is it going to be released?

Speedy J: i heard that too. should be interesting!

Iman Gerowgan: What kind of sounds will await us in your new album? What makes it „special“?

Speedy J: i'm working with some new tools and gadgets that i don't understand. usually this approach works for me to get specialness. i'm intrigued by themes like uncertainty darkness and contrast at the moment. no idea what will come out of that but at least it keeps me from getting bored with myself.

Iman Gerowgan: What collabs are you working on at the moment?

Speedy J: there are some collabs shows coming up with chris liebing, and i did a one-off live collab with brendon (echologist) last feb, and there are some studio collabs coming up with phil kieran, gary beck and edit select all of which will be released on edlx.

Iman Gerowgan: Endless [Giorgio Gigli & Perc] - 'Area EP' , great last release on your label Electric Deluxe. What more is going on, on your label?

Speedy J: perc and giorgio are planning to do more stuff together, and we have a new terence fixmer ep, speedy j ep, gary beck ep coming up and much more...

Iman Gerowgan: Which 5 artists do you always keep an eye on?

Speedy J: i'm not good in lists like this. most of the time i'm following what my friends are doing plus the people on the label, and whatever else i stumble upon through the zillions of channels that manage to reach me. i listen to all kinds of music certainly not only electronic.

Iman Gerowgan: Which artists are you currently enjoying listening to, besides the „electronic genre“?

Speedy J: anything really, from electro acoustic to classical to jazz to rock, new and old, whatever grabs my attention.

Iman Gerowgan: When you´re not on tour and not working on music, how does a normal day in your life looks like? What are you doing all day? Do you have kind of hobbies?

Speedy J: just like everyone else i guess; eat, sleep, shower, shit, cook, walk the dog and spending too much time behind screens.

Iman Gerowgan: Almost over 20 years of an amazing career in your back. If you could turn back the time, what would you do differently?

Speedy J: if i could turn back time i would be doing that all day and visit all kinds of interesting times and events in 4 billion year history

Iman Gerowgan: Do you see yourself Djing & Producing in 10 years from now?

Speedy J: if you would have asked me 10 years ago i would have said i'm not sure but i'm still doing it so i guess the answer is yes.
